Hey Rusty,

Totally mate. And thanks for posting the Luther quote - good food to think on.

I love the emphasis Schaeffer puts on the moment-by-moment of the Christian life. It's such a wonderful way to consider our life.

And yes, I'm totally with you about a skewed sort of Christianity that lives in unreality. Schaeffer would call that an "upper-story" Christianity which is disconnected from the "lower-story" of the creation.

Hmmm... that might even be worth posting about sometime! :)

Cheers brother!
Mark

Hey Earngey,

Great post. I particularly like the quote: "the greatest test of faith is not the acceptance of Christ for justification, but living like this moment by moment throughout our lives".

It's funny that sometimes you hear 'guilt' being spoken of as if it's foreign to a Christian. I often hear phrases like, 'Come to Christ and don't feel guilty anymore' or 'If you are still feeling guilty for sin, maybe you aren't really a Christian'. Although before God there is no guilt upon us, guilt is entirely normal for Christians. In fact Luther would argue that it is necessary. It's funny how Luther often reserves our preconceptions:

"A godly man feels sin more than grace, wrath more than favour, judgement more than redemption. An ungodly man feels almost no wrath, but is smug as though there were no wrath anywhere, as though there were no God anywhere who vindicates his righteousness. This happens mostly in those who strive for some appearance of religion(Commentary on Psalm 51)"
