As reported by the Episcopal Life website, and ACL news site, it seems that the liberal revisionist, Katharine Jefferts Schori has been invited to preach at a church in Brisbane as part of her Australia-New Zealand two week tour.

Mark Thompson has written an excellent and short statement which calls for her invitation to preach to be recalled. Here’s a snippet:

“We note with profound sadness that the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, Katherine Jefferts Schori, has been invited to preach in a Brisbane church in early July. This invitation shows an appalling lack of judgment and contempt for those who have suffered at the hands of the revisionists in The Episcopal Church.”

and

“Katherine Jefferts Schori bears a great deal of responsibility for the current turmoil, division and anguish in the Anglican Communion. It is entirely inappropriate that she should be welcomed into any diocese in the Anglican Church of Australia.”

Read the whole statement here at the ACL website.

Steve and I are hard at it, and this current podcast is a cracker!

Recorded on his birthday (see below** for David’s happy birthday song recorded on location by his kids!), Steve and I had the pleasure of interviewed Rev. David Ould, of St. Augustine’s Neutral Bay (known also as the church where Kate Haggar attends). In this episode, we get a real window into the state of some churches in England as David recounts his journey of faith as a child. We find out a bit about what are the trials and joys of working on Sydney’s wealthy North Shore.

But the heart of this interview is the fascinating discussion surrounding the Liberalism currently infecting the Anglican Communion. David shares with us his involvement in Stand Firm in the Faith, a website dedicated to communicating the news of different problems within the Anglican Communion – particularly concerning the rise of Liberalism. We also discuss some theological battles being fought in Africa and other parts of the world (this, by the way is a MUST HEAR for any Sydney Anglicans). And lastly, David shares with us some ways to begin to get involved, or support our brothers and sisters abroad.

Listen in, enjoy and pray!

Here’s another cracking episode of the Pilgrim’s Podcast to begin the year twentyten with!

In this episode we head out to the studios of Anglican Media Sydney and interview Jeremy Halcrow. He’s a great bloke who is a veteran Christian journalist, a former media relations consultant and the current editor of Southern Cross Newspaper.

In this fascinating chat we really try to grapple with how technology and journalism intersect with Christianity. With discuss the great opportunities and the risks involved in doing these things. We also discuss the funding cutback in the Sydney Diocese, how to get involved in internet-related Gospel opportunities, great websites to check out, and Craigs top 5 blogs!

Great episode, great bloke, and of course, good banter.

In this interview we have the privilege of hearing Ashley’s wisdom on Christian humility. What was an excellent section though, was hearing him speak about the importance of Church History for those who might be keen, young Christians (read: Young, Restless and Reformed!). It was a really great second half of the interview, and Steve and I greatly benefitted from sitting under this short time of teaching by Ashley. Much glory to our Lord!

We sat out on the rooftop of our building on a beautifully sunny morning and drank sparkling mineral water whilst we talked about God and life. What could be better!

Ashley is a fantastic guy and an encouraging brother in the Lord. Formally, he is the canon theologian of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas, visting fellow at Cambridge University, visting research fellow at Humboldt-Universitat in Berlin, and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. One of the foremost experts on Cranmer and the English Reformation, he is the author of Thomas Cranmer’s Doctrine of Repentance: Renewing the Power to Love.

In the interview we get to know him, and hear all about his growth in love for the Lord Jesus. We ask Ashley what sort of relevance the Anglican church has for young ‘post-denominational’ Christians in Sydney, and get a fascinating answer! One of the highlights for me though, was hearing Ashley’s thoughts on worship: he clearly explains some of they key differences between the Anglican and Presbyterian understandings of worship – the normative and regulative principles, respectively.

This was such a good interview it was for about an hour! So, this is part one. Enjoy!

This interview is a great window into the trials and seriously difficulties that many of our brothers and sisters face from within their own tribe. I personally found myself wanting to help and pray for these Christians who are being beaten down for their reformed and evangelical beliefs. Let’s not stick here in our comfy places rejoicing in what we have, but let’s be on our knees for our family overseas.
